World Marrow Donor Day 2018

On September 15, 2018, Romania, along with 57 other countries, celebrates World Marrow Donor Day. Between September 13 and 16, in George Enescu Square in Bucharest, we will organize the campaign “Donate a chance at life!“. The campaign is taking place in 15 other large cities in Romania and is supported by the Ministry of Health.

The “Donate a Chance at Life!” campaign is a public interest event through which we aim to inform the general population about the possibility that any healthy person, by registering in the Registry, can give life further by donating to patients who need a hematopoietic stem cell transplant and who hope that a compatible volunteer donor will be their chance at a new life.

The “Donate a Chance for Life!” campaign in Bucharest will be organized between September 13 and 16, 2018, and the main activities are:

  • In George Enescu Square between 12:00 and 22:00, there will be medical teams and volunteers from RNDVCSH who will provide information about what HSC donation means and how you can become a HSC donor. Information materials will also be available and will be provided free of charge. Healthy people between the ages of 18 and 45 can register with RNDVCSH;
  • Ambassadors of RNDVCSH, donors and patients will be with us throughout the campaign;
  • On the evening of September 15, 2018, a video mapping will be made on the Romanian Athenaeum to celebrate World Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donor Day and raise awareness of the importance of active involvement in increasing the number of registered Romanian donors to 100 thousand. The video-mapping projection will be around 9:00 PM and will last between 5-10 minutes and will transform the facade of this symbolic building of Romanians into a story about the patients’ hopes for a new chance at life made possible by the generosity of donors.
  • On September 17, 2018, a press conference will be organized, attended by Mrs. Sorina Pintea, Minister of Health, renowned professionals in the field of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, patients and donors.

Communication, information and promotion actions for registration in the RNDVCSH will take place in the cities where there are CSH Donor Centers (Arad, Bacău, Caracal, Cluj, Constanța, Galați, Iași, Oradea, Ploiești, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Slatina, Slobozia, Tg. Mureș and Timișoara) organized by the health units designated to organize activities within the National Health Subprogram – Peripheral and Central Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.

Partners: Romanian Society of Hematology, Romanian Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation and the Administration of Hospitals and Medical Services in Bucharest.
