World Marrow Donor Day 2016

The National Registry of Voluntary Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donors (RNDVCSH) invites you tomorrow, Saturday, September 17, to celebrate World Marrow Donor Day together.

Children and parents kicked off the campaign “Donate a chance at life!” and entered the competition for exercise and health. Join the caravan and come to Drumul Taberei Park tomorrow at 12 noon, where in a special atmosphere, full of joy and energy, we thank those who donated and saved lives.

World Marrow Donor Day is celebrated worldwide by over 50 Registries. On this occasion, the Minister of Health, Mr. Vlad Voiculescu, and the Registry ambassadors will send messages of thanks to volunteer donors around the world who have saved thousands of lives, as well as to all those who wish to become volunteer donors.

“Finding a blood sibling to be a match for a patient who needs a hematopoietic stem cell transplant is like finding a needle in a haystack. Those diagnosed with a serious blood disease need a stem cell transplant as soon as possible. So far, 112 Romanians suffering from serious blood diseases have been transplanted with hematopoietic stem cells from unrelated volunteer donors, in the bone marrow transplant centers in Bucharest, Timișoara and Târgu Mureș. Dozens of other patients are waiting for a donor to be their match and give them a new chance at life. For half of Romanian patients, there is no match donor anywhere in the world. Finding a match donor is a race against time, and their chance to find a donor is building the Registry with registered volunteer donors in Romania. We thank those who donated and gave their lives forward!” said Dr. Aurora Dragomirișteanu, director of RNDVCSH.

We invite you to encourage young family members, friends and colleagues to participate in outdoor sports activities and join the “Donate a Chance at Life!” caravan. Those who wish can register on the spot in the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donor Registry and if one day they have the chance to be the partner of a blood cancer patient, they can save a life!
